Post by Nate Sipes/The New Level on Oct 26, 2009 21:09:01 GMT -6
[Inside the Media Room of the Fayetteville Boys and Girls Club, another exclusive Melvin Gates interview is taking place. His subject is Nate Sipes. Nate, however, could care less about talking to Melvin at this moment. It seems that his mind has been on Maya and their crumbling relationship for the past few months. No matter what Nate has done to try and improve the situation, things have just continued to deteriorate. While he’s trained for his match with Ase at Southern Dynamite, his thoughts continue to drift to the one person who could make his life so pleasant and so miserable all at once. Nate thinks about how he’s basically been sleep walking for the past few days. His mind has been so diluted that he can’t even remember what Melvin was telling him before the interview started. Nate just nodded his head and said “uh huh”; his usual response these days. As Nate’s mind continues to wander, he looks up from the section of floor on which he’s been concentrating and realizes that Melvin is staring at him with a look of confusion.]
NS: I’m sorry?
MG: I said thank you for joining me today, Nate.
[Nate tries to shake this sinking feeling off, forces a smile and responds.]
NS: My pleasure, Mel.
MG: Now, we’re just a few, short days away from Southern Dynamite and you have a very important match as in the Main Event, you are matched…with ASE! Tell me, what’s going through your mind right now?
[Nate, not wishing to discuss his personal matters, thinks up something really quick.]
NS: I’m thinking that you’re right, Mel; this will be a very important match for me but for Ase as well. He claims to be some sort of Lou Gehrig, “iron horse” figure who can beat anyone and everyone; no matter what condition he’s in. He’s shown that he’s capable of competing each week but his win-loss record isn’t as great as he’d lead you to believe. Take for instance that the last two times he’s stepped into the ring with my cousin, the RCW Southern Heritage Champion Doug Gavelon, he’s been on the losing side. Well, Ase is about to find out that not only does this family succeed in winning gold but this family also has Ase’s number.
MG: Now, you have a very important title defense coming up at the next Hog Heaven event against Puck. What effects do you think you might have for that match if the Ase we all know shows up at Southern Dynamite?
[Nate nods his head in agreement.]
NS: I know that Doug and I like to crack jokes about our opponents and while Ase isn’t about to figure out how to beat anyone in the 7DA, that doesn’t escape the fact that he’s still a very tough, very capable, very sadistic opponent. He’s a man who pummeled Mikey in three matches in one night. He’s a man who pushed Hollywood to his limits in a Ladder Match. And he’s also the one who came so close to preventing Doug from winning the Southern Heritage Title in that Cage Match. If I were to have a bad night against this man, it could seriously limit my performance against Puck in the title match. I want to make sure that I train hard and work just as hard in the ring so that I can get a quick, quality win against Ase and move on to Never Surrender and Puck.
MG: Ase’s wife and trainer Tarja has been known to interfere on her man’s behalf. How do you plan to combat that potential problem? Having Maya keep Tarja at bay, perhaps?
[Nate looks back to the ground. He gives some serious thought on how to respond. Finally, he shakes his head in disagreement and looks back to Melvin.]
NS: I’m hoping it won’t come to that. Maya…
[Just saying her name causes Nate to stop in his tracks and just focus on it. He quickly collects himself and continues.]
NS: While I’m sure she’d be quite capable of handling herself in a fight, I’m hoping that Tarja will be able to keep herself out of this match and that Ase and I can handle this like men; one-on-one; hand-to-hand; no one but us deciding who comes out the winner. If Ase and Tarja can do that then they’ve earned my respect. If not, then they’ve shown that there’s a reason Ase isn’t the champ right now: he doesn’t have the heart to win “the big one” anymore. That is, without getting some well-timed help for his cause. We’ll see what happens at Southern Dynamite but I’m leaning more towards having to dispatch two people rather than just one.
MG: Very well. Now, Nate, we just have a few minutes left. Please, give us your closing thoughts on the match.
NS: Certainly.
[Nate takes his focus off of Melvin and turns it to the camera. He stares into the camera; doing his best to keep his serious demeanor on his face instead of the confused, saddened look that’s been there the past several weeks.]
NS: In this business, people always want to add a ton of hyperbole to their match; build it up so that it seems larger than life. Many times they succeed but many times they fail miserably. This match, Nate Sipes vs. Ase, doesn’t need that kind of hype but there’s also a reason it’s the Main Event this week. That reason should be obvious to anyone who’s seen our bodies of work in the ring. “The Perfect Weapon” and “The Best Pure Wrestler in the World” are two of the most technically sound wrestlers not just in RCW but in the entire world and that’s not hyperbole but an honest fact. He’s shed more blood than anyone in this company and I’ve never lost a one-on-one match in this company. Hell, this match would headline any weekly show, supercard or pay-per-view in any company; not just RCW but ANY wrestling promotion. And just think, Ben and AJ were kind enough to give this match, this great victory for Nate Sipes to all of you fans on free TV. Why? Because either Ase will find a way to prove himself better on this night and get some momentum leading into Hog Heaven or else I will prove that just because I’m “only” the Natural Champion that I’m also an elite RCW competitor. That I belong in the main event at each and every show. That I could be and should be the Southern Heritage Champion when all is said and done. Ase, whatever perch you’re on or think you’re on, I’m about to knock you back down to Earth and win our little war at Southern Dynamite. You’ve concentrated so much on Doug and the Southern Heritage Title and Phil and Hollywood and vengeance that you haven’t had time to focus on the rest of RCW. So, just in case you haven’t been paying attention for the last several minutes, my name is Nate Sipes, the RCW Natural Champion, the man who will beat you at Southern Dynamite and I represent wrestling at its purest form.
MG: That match and more at the next exciting edition of Southern Dynamite!
[The camera fades to black and Nate proceeds out the door. He quickly makes his way to the parking lot; sitting in the driver’s seat of his car. He holds his head in his hands and is about to break down but somehow keeps himself together. He calms his breathing and reaches into his pocket; pulling out his cell phone. He dials a few numbers and holds it up to his ear. He waits through each ring; waiting for someone to answer on the other end.]
NS: Hey, Maya…Yeah, it’s me…So how’s it going?…Alright, alright, I’ll get to the point. Listen, I know things have been beyond horrible lately but I’ve been thinking about you a lot lately. I’m not always good as expressing myself personally but I just know that there’s something about you that makes me want you even more than before…Look, you don’t have to stay with me in PA if you don’t want to. I’ll be in Arkansas each week anyway and we can always talk over the phone…I know they say that but I don’t care. I really want to make this work and I don’t want to lose you…Alright, I can respect that…Alright then…What’s that?…What about my match?…Yeah…Yeah, I’ll give him hell. Just for you…Okay…I love you…Hello?
[After uttering those last three words, Nate’s phone seems to go dead. He repeats “hello” a few more times but no one is heard on the other line again. Nate flicks his phone onto the passenger’s seat and takes a firm grip on the steering wheel. He throws his head back and lets out a huge sigh before putting the key in the ignition and driving off.]

Begin Scene: Time, Date, and location unknown.
We come to see Ase seated in his steel folding chair in a dank basement of some unknown building. A single lightbulb illuminates Ase's sweat covered figure. His head is down, his elbows on his knees, a towel covering his head. The tatoos that cover his arms dance and move as Ase's arm muscles twitch from pent up aggression. Without lifting his head or removing the towel, Ase speaks.
Ase: And once again, Ase main events Southern Dynamite. Meanwhile, Gavelon continues to proves he's the "only wrestler that matters"... by sitting on his ass. Last week at Southern Dynamite, I made it my business to once again be involved in the main event. Of course, Jeffery Hollywood just had to involve himself as well, which was fine- I got a little warm-up for both of them before Never Surrender. Sadly, Alex Crowe proved a useless ally and got pinned and fired from RCW.
Ase feigns a deep, sorrowful sigh.
Ase: All well, no time to grieve that loss, in just two days time, I get to take on the RCW Natural Champion in the Southern Dynamite main event. Now, why do you think I am facing not just anybody, but the Natural Champion so soon coming into Never Surrender? The answer is quite simple, really- Gavelon realizes his time is up, he's been the prey ever since he got lucky at School of Hard Knocks II, and now he knows I'm closing in on him. So, he's praying and begging to whatever god he worships that tossing his top lackey at me will slow me down, distract me.
Ase barely lifts his head enough for his eyes to pierce into the camera from under the towel.
Ase: You people should know me better than that already. I mean, I single handedly destroyed every member of the Alpha Storm to get to Mikey way back when. Does anybody seriously think a croney, even a croney who holds a title, is any match for me? If Nate Sipes was any match for me, HE'D be in the Southern Heritage title hunt, not keeping the Natural Title warm for the next up and comer with a lick of talent.
Ase lights a cigarette and the smoke billows out from the towel.
Ase: Honestly, I consider this a good thing. I get to embarass the Natural Champion before I take the Southern Heritage Championship from Gavelon. I can prove once and for all that office politics and title conglomerates are no match for actual ring skill. So you guys all got to enjoy your brief moment in the sun, but now it's time for people with actual talent to step up and represent RCW the way it is supposed to be represented. With wrestlers showcasing their skills on a weekly basis. Not some title hugger who sits in the back unless Ben Jacobs or AJ Supreme forces them to show their faces to the fans.
Ase sits in silence for a long while, the smoke from his cigarette billowing out from under his towel occassionally. He sighs deeply before continuing.
Ase: You know, I think through all the BS I've dealt with since I made my return, I did forget about the rest of RCW. I came back with a mission- to destroy those who wronged me. Hollywood, Parker, Phil. I put Hollywood on his ass for months, Parker is still sipping his food through a straw, and Phil's back into hiding, although I never really got a chance to shut him up completly, so I'm sure he'll surface again sometime. But, yes, as Nate Sipes said, I forgot about the rest of RCW. I forgot about every single person outside of my vendetta and whomever was unlucky enough to be in my way the current week. Of course, it doesn't really matter. I've met every challenge given to me and surpassed it, and even thrown a few of my own challenges at others along the way. Yet somehow, people once again doubt me. It seems like people forget that win, lose, or draw, I'm the guy people talk about. I'm the guy who is ONCE AGAIN main eventing Southern Dynamite. I ended up in the main event of Southern Dynamite last week because I had to carry the card just so people didn't leave disappointed. People forget that even though I lost both my Ladder match and Steel Cage matches for the Southern Heritage title, I tore the roof off the house each time. Yeah, Hollywood bested me in the Ladder match, and yes, Gavelon's lucky shot got me caught up in the cAge, but before those moments, I delivered heart pounding, non-stop action that kept the fans breathless and on the edge of their seats from start to finish.
Ase spits his cigarette onto the floor and grinds it out with the heel of his boot.
Ase: Sipes, you're right- I haven't been at the top of my game recently- I lost the Steel Cage match, and then involved myself with Gavelon and Crowe, wrongfully thinking Crowe had some talent, and even though I didn't get pinned in that match, I still lost, because Crowe proved utterly useless. But that doesn't change who I am or what I do. I put on quality matches. High spots, bloodshed, the ride of the your life type matches. Matches that go down as the greatest matches in RCW history. And that isn't some TV hype like older TV announcers used to do. Get on the show and proclaim that night's main event was "the biggest main event in history" every damn week. No, that's pure and simple fact- I put on the greatest matches of RCW history- whether I wrestle somebody like Doug Gavelon, the soon-to-be former Southern Heritage champion, or somebody like Kip Reeves. There truly is no point in being in that ring if the fans forget about you the moment Trip announces the match, or the house lights come on. And though my ultimate goal is to take back what is rightfully mine in the Southern Heritage title, I'll not lose sight of what made me the main eventer I am today- being the best.
Ase rips the towel from his head, and looks into the camera.
Ase: And yet, somehow people are seeming to forget this. Ase lost a couple, and now people think any schmo out of Developmental can get a quick win off of me like I'm... I'm... some type of En Fuego, ready to be put out to pasture. I'll tell you one thing, Sipes, I will NOT be a stepping stone, not for you, not for anybody. I put tons of people on the map being the best there is around. Mikey was nothing before I got a hold of him, and to this day, even though he ran off to Japan and went crazy, about the Three Rings of Pain matches we had. Nobody else has done anything like that in RCW before or since. The ladder match with me and Hollywood was simply put the best ladder match to date in RCW. And now, I step into the ring with Doug Gavelon and Jeffery Hollywood in an Iron man match. You see, if you want something to get over with the fans, you put it next to Ase and you've got results.
The steadily rising anger in Ase's face and voice suddenly disappear, and Ase chuckles to himself.
Ase: And I guess that's it. Nate Sipes may be the Natural Champion, but maybe the Office is thinking you aren't selling enough t-shirts. So now your being fed to me so up your worth. And here I was, thinking that I was getting slighted by being put in a match with the Second String Army's back-up captain. But, I guess I just figured it out. They are trying to make YOU have more worth, get people talking about YOU. Somebody once coined the phrase "I'll make you famous," which works in this situation. Of course, that will only last temporarily. Once I'm finished putting you through the wrestling clinic, people will be wowing about how this was the best match of your career. That'll probably carry you to Hog Heaven, where the Office will try and dump the title onto the next person they think can sell them t-shirts and tickets. Then you'll probably go back to mid-card, where you'll finish out your career. Riding on Doug's coat-tails won't take you much further Sipes, because once I'm done with you, then Doug's going to have to realize I'm still gunning for him. If I have to take out every single one of his Second String Army plus Jeffery Hollywood to do it.
Ase stands up, and places the towel over his head again.
Ase: But remember, Nate, just because I haven't been focused recently doesn't mean I haven't noticed you aren't either. If you can barely get through an interview with Melvin, how exactly do you plan to keep up with me? I'm not going out to do a scrimage with you, Sipes- with me, it's real, and it means something every time. I'm not about to go easy on you because you're having woman problems. So bring your best Sipes, because I don't want any excuses when in the middle of the ring, I slap you into the Kaulus, and next thing you know-
Ase punches the light above his head, thrusting the room into darkness...
