Post by Doug Gavelon on Jan 13, 2010 18:18:43 GMT -6
[As the sun goes down on another day, only the fading sunlight shining on the snow illuminates the streets; being too early for lamplights yet. Coming around the corner is a familiar face in a Chevy Cobalt: the RCW Southern Heritage Champion Doug Gavelon. He’s returning from his day’s worth of training. It’s an all-too-familiar regime as he’s faced his opponents many times of late. In fact, they posed as serious a threat as anyone could pose in someone’s first title defense. These thoughts have been heavy on Doug’s mind as he realizes the challenge he faced down at Never Surrender. Many people say he’s getting a break by his next encounter with Jeffrey Hollywood and Ase being a non-title match. Doug knows that this doesn’t matter as a loss, any loss to two top contenders is still a major blow to a champion’s aura of dominance. Once the cracks start, nothing can piece them together again. Doug needs to stay dominant if he’s to remain champion. This means a win at the first Southern Dynamite on Versus. This means continuing his winning streak against Hollywood and Ase. This means remaining the only wrestler that matters. Doug drives into the parking lot of his apartment complex and proceeds up the stairs. He opens the door and is immediately met by his loving girlfriend Tiffany; throwing her arms around his neck and kissing him passionately.]
DG: Now THAT is a welcome.
[They both laugh as Doug closes the door behind him. Doug then bends down and kisses Tiffany’s belly before standing back up and kissing her again.]
DG: Did the little guy give you any trouble today?
Tiffany: Nothing but the usual tossing and turning. SHE is a very active person while SHE is still only in the womb.
[Doug just rolls his eyes as they continue their friendly wager on the gender of the baby.]
Tiffany: So how’d the training go?
DG: Great; same as always. The only good thing about facing the same guys is knowing what to work on.
Tiffany: That’s definitely one benefit. Did you do any interviews or anything?
DG: No, Beavis and Carl are getting interviewed by Bettie Lee and Nate’s just hanging out back home. I figured I’d just send in a promo from home.
Tiffany: Works for me. Means I get to see more of you tonight.
DG: You’ve been seeing more of me for a while now.
[Doug flashes his mischievous smile as Tiffany playfully punches him in the shoulder.]
DG: So, how about you get dinner ready and I’ll be out when I’m done?
Tiffany: Okay but you’re cooking dinner tomorrow night.
DG: That seems fair.
[They kiss once more before Doug grabs the camera from the computer table and proceeds into the bedroom; closing the door behind him. He sets up the camera on the night stand and positions himself on the bed in front of it; sitting with his hands together on his lap. He reaches out and turns the camera on before moving his hands back to his lap.]
DG: And so RCW has finally made the next big step. They’ve moved out of the realm of “regional promotion” and into the neighborhood of “national power” and RCW is certainly a powerful wrestling company. This is the only company that can tout the best technical wrestlers, the best women wrestlers, the best “hardcore” wrestlers and the most entertaining wrestlers on this planet. Nobody else can do what we do and we’ll prove it as we debut on Versus. Not only will the fans now be able to see us on a local CW affiliate or follow us through the internet but will be able to see the best wrestling promotion on national television. And what better way to headline the first show than to feature a rematch of the great Southern Heritage Title match from Never Surrender as I will step back into the ring with both Jeffrey Hollywood and Ase.
[Doug closes his eyes and a smile develops over his face as he thinks back to that match; the action; the exhaustion; the pain; the victory. He opens his eyes and looks back into the camera.]
DG: We’ll have to see if we can put on as great a match as that was. While this will be a non-title affair, it’s important to note that both of these men are present in the Southern Heritage Challenge and will get quite a boost if they were to beat me at Southern Dynamite. So I hope that none of you believe that I don’t have something to lose in this one as I definitely do. They say that to be the man you’ve got to beat the man and regardless if our most prized title is on the line or not, a win over the champ is still something very impressive; something of note that the victor could be proud of for a long time to come. That’s why I must win over Hollywood and Ase at Southern Dynamite: I’ve beaten Ase the last two supercards and I pinned Hollywood at Never Surrender. A loss now would be a loss of dominance and invincibility. That’s something that every champion needs: the wins that prove you’re the champ and that no boasts, no hollow words from an opponent, can measure up to you or your accomplishments.
[Doug’s nostrils flare as he takes a deep breath.]
DG: I’m not surprised that Ase hasn’t been seen since our encounter at Never Surrender. Not because he’s a coward or anything to that degree, mind you, but because he must find a new way to try and beat me; to take my title; to try and become the better man once again. Seclusion can certainly prove a mighty benefit to anyone. In fact, look what it’s done for Nate: he’s become more focused since his…unpleasantness…with Maya and he’s looked even more impressive; something that I didn’t think was possible. By closing himself off from the world, I know Ase is hard at work for this match and for the Southern Heritage Challenge that awaits him after. I’m quite interested to see what new tricks he’s picked up, how he’ll execute them and how he’ll be so disappointed afterwards once I still beat him.
[Doug pauses for a moment as he can’t help but chuckle.]
DG: That’s one, major goal that I have for this match is to finally, definitively get a pinfall or submission on Ase. Two straight victories is a great thing to have over him but keeping his shoulders down for a three count or making him tap out would be an even greater achievement. I plan to do that and continue to prove why I’m the Southern Heritage Champion and why he still isn’t despite his best efforts.
[Doug looks off-camera; thinking back to his other opponent’s recent promo. He looks back and continues.]
DG: As for Hollywood, I now have to give credit where credit is due. Sure, he’s a son of a b*tch but at least he’s a son of a b*tch with some principles. I handed him a title shot on a silver platter but he’s willing to fight his way through the best that RCW has to offer and earn another shot against me. However, despite such a revelation, I still stand by my actions at the recent Southern Dynamite. I can be as forgiving and humble a man as the next guy but considering the bullsh*t and grief that this man and his mistress would put me and Tiffany through every time they opened their mouths, he has to go above and beyond before I’ll give him his due respect as a man.
[Doug’s eyes squint as he contemplates a thought that pops into his mind.]
DG: That’s what makes your reaction that much more interesting, Jeff. After I’d said my piece, you seemed hurt and offended when you got back on the microphone. Yet I’m fully aware that you could care less who does or doesn’t show you respect. Does it mean that much to you that the Southern Heritage champion shows you respect, Jeff?
[Doug’s eyes return to normal as he continues.]
DG: That’s it, isn’t it? You’re that obsessed with how you’re portrayed and how you’re accepted that it truly hurt you when I rebuffed your calls for respect. If I don’t even accept who you are then how could anyone else do so? You needed me to get yourself over again after your long layoff. Well, Jeff, you’ll get your chance on a national platform. If you can somehow beat me at Southern Dynamite on Versus then you will have shown me enough to warrant a true measure of respect. Until then, you’ll just be the loudmouth who finally got what he deserved at Never Surrender.
[Doug takes a moment to chuckle again.]
DG: For our two matches, you’ve both tried to prove that I’m not the only wrestler that matters. In fact, that still seems to be the case according to Jeff. Yet, despite all your efforts, I’ve continued to prove so by beating you both. Once again, you’ll both get a chance to knock me off such a pedestal but has anything really changed since our previous encounter? All that has is that I now own a pinfall victory over Jeffrey Hollywood and am now the official winner of the only Triple Threat Iron Man match in wrestling history. Both of which would benefit me even more. I have everything going for me now and I refuse to let that change at Southern Dynamite. I will continue to ride the wave of success and continue to provide a champion that the fans can be proud of while the two of you will lose yet another chance to make a name for yourselves. I will top what’s sure to be a great night for RCW by proving to the entire world why I’m still the Southern Heritage Champion, why I’m still the only wrestler that matters and why I’m the “Burning Hammer” Doug Gavelon.
[Doug reaches out and turns off the camera. He then gets up and opens the bedroom door.]
DG: So what’s for dinner then?
Tiffany: Spaghetti and meatballs.
DG: Now that sounds really good.
[Doug closes the bedroom door behind him as he proceeds to the dinner table and enjoy another great night with the woman he loves.]
