~The time is growing near for the next installment of Southern Dynamite. While the main event contains an interesting handicap matchup involving Ase and the New Downward Spiral, many fans are turning their attention to the undercard, especially the four men who will try to earn a shot at the RCW Natural Title. As all four men prepare for their respective matchups in their own way, Doug Gavelon is doing what he does best...~

[The scene opens up as an RCW camera crew walks into a small weight room in town. The walls are covered with mirrors all the way around except for the doorway. The room itself is crammed with many weight machines ranging from dead lift bars to squat machines to the classic barbells. The characters which fill the room are just as varied as it ranges from musclebound gym rats to local athletes to the most interesting patron of all...Doug Gavelon. The crew walks over to Doug as he occupies the leg press machine. He places a 45 pound weight on each side of the machine before taking his place on the seat in front. He places his legs on the metal platform overhead, uses the handles to remove the restraints and begins to press the platform with his legs. He manages 10 reps before finishing. As he gets up from the seat to wipe his face with his towel, he sees the out-of-place camera crew.]DG: Hey guys. Hey, I know your equipment must be heavy but i think these weights will give you a better workout.
[The crew laughs at Doug's smart ass commentary.]
Camera man: Yeah you're probably right but I think we'll leave the weightlifting to the experts. By the way, how much did you just lift?DG: Not counting the bar that holds the weights and the platform, about 1170 pounds.
Camera man: Holy crap! I don't think I could lift a hundred pounds let alone a thousand.DG: That's what we call dedication. I mean, you don't think I've stayed in this good of shape by just sitting on my couch and watching my butt grow, do ya?
Camera man: No, it's obvious you've been working out. Where'd you learn to lift like this?DG: My trainers were well-versed in weightlifting. Well, the one was at least. The other one was trying but it just never really paid off for him.
Camera man: So, where do you wanna shoot this?DG: I'm moving over to arm curls so I'll take a seat on one of these benches.
[Doug moves over to a bench in the vicinity of the barbells. Doug finds an unoccupied bench and sits at the end of it as the crew sets up. The crew goes through their countdown and begin rolling with Doug having a serious look on his face and people still lifting weights on the machines behind him.]DG: As you can see, judging from where I am, that while people may change, their habits don't. No matter if I am on the light or dark side of the fence, I have always dedicated myself to being in the best possible shape. Of course, that comes from my mentors, who were almost always seen in rooms such as these preparing for their matches in WpW. I am, of course, talking about Jarvis and Havoc: the most famous incarnation of the Devastation name.
While I did learn from them, I never became the absolute powerhouse that Jarvis was and I was dedicated enough so that I didn't have to rely on high-flying maneuvers like Havoc did. No, I became the best of both worlds. My workouts involve an all-around workout. Heavy lifting and cardio, fine tuning and calisthenics, strength and speed. That's why I think both of them took great pride in watching me compete in WpW because I had done what they couldn't and that was become a great technical athlete who could back up my skills with great strength and speed. Indeed, whenever I said back in those days that I would become World Champion, those two men and also all of my fans knew that it was only a matter of time.
Now, I've come to RCW and while I still believe that I will reach the mountain top in this company, when can still be up for debate. To me, outside a select few athletes, there are no easy matchups in RCW. Almost everyone on this roster is world class material. You've got the Adam Davids, Adam Troy, Ase, En Fuego, Mikey the loveable mute, and even the MIA Phil because he did have to beat some stiff competition to become the Southern Heritage Champion. However, it appears that success has gone to his head and he no longer feels he must defend his title or even acknowledge this company. That mistake I guarantee will lead to his downfall.
Of course, there's Brock Davids whose Natural Title of which myself and three others are in hot pursuit thanks to this mini-tournament. But Brock has proven that he's not bulletproof as Mr. Troy has taken him to the edge the past few weeks. Their next matchup, you all can imagine, I will be watching with great interest....for more reason than one.
And not even my first real opponent in RCW can be considered a pushover. He is a man by the name of Eno Redrum who at one time or another was the NEW World Champion. We have already discussed in much detail back-and-forth the problems that we must face on a personal level each and every day. Eno, you've talked about problems with sleep and I know what you mean. Nightmares signify a moral dilemma that a person faces in their life. The deaths of your family is obviously yours as my betrayal of my family and friends is mine.
But Eno, I hope you know that a peaceful sleep may never come to you again as these moral dilemmas can haunt us till our dying days. Some things are just too horrific for our minds to ever let us forget. Each and every failure that we've faced just stares right back at us when we see our eyes staring back at us in the mirror. Redemption and forgiveness can be hard to come by, especially those that you seek out are unable or unwilling to appease you. Whether it be a horrified lover, a beaten old friend, or a dead child, freedom from the burden of our failures may be impossible.
However, in the irony of pro wrestling, you and I can face each other and knowing what we've each experienced in our lives, can take our frustrations out on each other. I have no doubt that this will be a very hard-hitting, explosive matchup. I think that the absolute victors will be the fans because they are in for a great matchup. I also believe that you may be the greatest challenge I have ever faced to this point, Eno. Luckily, we both have a profound respect for one another and will have no problem putting everything on the line in our matchup because our alliance is already strong.
Which brings me to my next point: do you really think I'd let us be called Hammer Time? Hahaha! All kidding aside man, that was a good one. Comedy I think does suit you well. In fact, I've found that comedy can be the perfect remedy to overcome pain. I mean, whenever I had a crappy day back in WpW, all I had to do was pull out a vintage Devastation promo and I was in tears on the ground. Hahaha!
But regardless what our name will be, I'm already certain that our detractors will call us Hammer Time just to get to us mentally and I say let them try it. Their idiotic attempt at comedy and to try and give themselves a little bit of courage will be the last mistake they ever make in this world. Our wrestling abilities will reign supreme over every disrespectful piece of garbage that we'll face in this company.
Like I've said, like you've said, like we've always said, Eno, this battle will not involve any malice towards one another but there is something at stake. That something is a shot at the Natural Title and that is something that I want. I want to be the man in this company almost as much as I want forgiveness from those central to the atrocities that I've committed. My determination is unwavering and my abilities are sound. I will be champion soon enough. If I have to go through Eno, Casanova, or even Kip "Twelve Steps" Reeves to do it, thems the breaks.
Moreso, I will become champion to remove the darkness that has gathered over my soul. By becoming the champion, my heart, mind, and soul will come together and I will be whole once more.
This I am sure of for three very simple reasons: I am the only wrestler that matters. I am the Burning Hammer. I am Doug Gavelon.
[The camera shuts off and the camera man gives a thumbs up.]DG: Thanks a lot guys.
Camera man: No problem. Hey, how about we shoot some footage of you working out? I'm sure we could use it for a video package on you sooner or later.DG: Sure sounds like a great idea.
[Doug goes over to the barbell rack standing next to the wall on the opposite side of the room from the door. He picks up the two 100 pound weights. He makes his way back to the bench and begins doing curls as the cameras begin rolling again.]
