2 p.m.
[The scene opens inside “The Hitching Post” which is owned by Josh: a good friend of the current RCW Natural Champion Doug Gavelon. The friends are gathered together at the dimly-lit bar where Doug is working on a glass of water and speaks to his friend in between Josh waiting on his customers. Doug is wearing a black tanktop and blue workout pants as he continues to drink from the unclean glass. Doug looks it over but just shrugs his shoulders.]DG: I take it you guys don’t have a decent washer?
[Josh looks up and sees Doug showing off the spotted glass in his hand.]Josh: Who has time? When we’re really busy, we just dunk them in water and dry them off before handing them back out.[This statement prompts several customers to check out their own glasses as Josh just rolls his eyes.]Josh: Besides, aren’t you getting tired of that FREE water yet?DG: Not quite.
Josh: Shouldn’t you be training for that main event you’ve got at Southern Dynamite?DG: That’s what I will be doing once I’m done here, busting your b*lls.
[Doug flashes an evil smile at Josh before finishing off his water.]Josh: Oh ha ha. Then again, you might not really need to train for this one.DG: You think so?
Josh: Yeah, I mean, everyone knows that win he had over Brock was a fluke. I mean, a backslide? If you get a monster like that with a backslide, then Brock must’ve been off that night.DG: You can call it whatever you want but he did pin him and he did leave him lying beaten for several weeks before Brock left.
Josh: Brock wasn’t ever the same after you whipped his a**.[Doug smirks and slightly nods his head in agreement.]DG: Well, regardless of what happened to Brock or if Alex Crowe is for real or not, I’ve got to head out. Take it easy, man.
Josh: I always do.[The two men shake hands and Doug walks out the door.]4 p.m.
[Doug is now working out at the local YMCA and has taken off his tanktop. He’s in the weight room on the leg press. He sets the weight at 720 pounds and begins his set. With only the slightest strain, he manages ten reps before setting the weight back on the rest. He grabs his towel from an empty workout bench and wipes down his face and the back of his neck. He walks out of the room and sees the camera crew waiting for him.]Camera man: Hey Doug. We’re here, just like you asked.DG: Yeah, thanks. Let’s do this thing in the locker room. I can stand in front of this red, padded wall they have near the back.
Camera man: That sounds fine.[The crew follows Doug into the locker room. Doug proceeds over to his locker which has a padlock on it. He unlocks it, reaches into the locker and pulls out his duffle bag. He unzips it to reveal the Natural Title belt itself. He then walks over to the wall that he was talking about with the belt over his shoulder as the camera crew sets up. They give him the signal and he begins to speak.]DG: As we come closer and closer to our next big event, School of Hard Knocks, it’s now official on whom my opponent will be for this title…
[Doug looks over at the title that is currently resting on his left shoulder before turning back towards the camera.]DG: …for MY title, the RCW Natural Title and that man is Chris Sinclair. While this variation of the 3 the Hard Way competition was cut short by Brock’s leaving and Davey’s no show, it still left the fine fans of RCW with a great rematch of an encounter from Southern Dynamite a few weeks ago that people are still talking about. I am really looking forward to putting my title on the line against Sinclair once again at School of Hard Knocks.
[Doug moves his head to look down at the ground and strokes his goatee as if he’s thinking about something.]DG: Of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t…rather if I wouldn’t focus on my matchup at Southern Dynamite #22 against Alex Crowe in the non-title main event. I know the fans are confused on the matchup and I know some of the boys in the back are upset on what they feel is an “unworthy punk” getting a main event matchup against the champ.
[Doug looks back up at the camera.]DG: But I know differently. Just because the kid has a sub par record doesn’t mean he’s without the talent to make it in this business. I know he has a truckload of talent from watching him in that Contract Battle Royal and his two encounters with Brock Davids. All he needs is a little experience and he can set this company on fire.
[Doug again strokes his goatee.]DG: Of course, Crowe has been making a name for himself in recent weeks by brutally attacking the former Natural Champ Brock Davids. The recently departed Brock has not only lost the belt to yours truly at our biggest supercard to date, lost to Sinclair for the title contendership and got his a** kicked week-in and week-out within the last few months. It seems that until he left, Brock was the stepping stone for half the roster.
[Doug quickly chuckles to himself before becoming serious again.]DG: All kidding aside, Brock was a great talent and will be missed and no matter the opinions of the locker room, you did pin him in the center of the ring, Crowe. But, you see, that was due to a mistake made by Brock: he took you lightly. He had you beat and decided to showboat. That left him wide open and left everyone with a classic phrase in pro wrestling: expect the unexpected. Brock was great when it came to using his brawn, synthesized or not, but he was defeated again and again and again over the last few months thanks to great brain power. I was the one who used the utmost of my brain power as I used it to become the new RCW Natural Champion at Hog Heaven 3. I proved that it’s never about the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog.
[Doug takes the belt from off of his shoulder and holds it at his side with his left hand.]DG: So, Alex, I’m not about to overlook you or your abilities because you were also able to outthink the big lug and reign victorious. In fact, whether you’ve been victorious or not in RCW, you’ve always looked impressive. That’s why I’m still taking this match at Southern Dynamite very seriously because I know that no one is impervious to defeat and that anything can happen on a given night. Brock didn’t understand that and that’s why he failed. Hell, I’m glad you’ve decided to light a fire under your a**, Crowe, because that just means we’ll put on an even greater match at Southern Dynamite and I will, yet again, be involved in a match of the year candidate. It seems that I’m sweeping that category.
[Once again, Doug quickly chuckles before turning back to being serious.]DG: Now, onto your challenge about my title. I’ll be the first to say that you’re definitely above the likes of Cletus Beauchamp but you’re still on the level of Kip Reeves, Brett Johnson and Ares when it comes to win-loss records. The way I figure it, if you were to gain a title shot, you would need a win over a big time competitor in RCW and I know of no bigger competitor in RCW than me. So, Crowe, if you do manage to pin me or, through divine intervention, force me to submit then I will grant you a title shot once I deal with Chris Sinclair at School of Hard Knocks.
[Doug makes a dramatic pause as he seems to think to himself for a moment.]DG: I realize that may sound a bit cocky when addressing Sinclair but I assure you, it’s not ego that drives me but the hard work and dedication that I use to end the hopes of my opponents for victory. I have full confidence in my defenses of the title and have no doubt that I’ll have a long reign as champion. Regardless, Crowe, I’ve called your bluff because I am a fighting champion and if you do win at Southern Dynamite, then you get your shot after School of Hard Knocks. As for getting a shot for a good effort…we’ll see. Don’t consider that a slap in the face but rather a challenge. Show me everything that you have. Show me why you should be considered a top contender in RCW. Show me why, even in defeat, that you should be granted a shot at this title…
[Doug holds the belt with both hands and holds it near his waist.]DG: …at MY title. Show me the heart that it takes to be a champion; something that I should see quite well.
[Doug takes the belt and slings it now over his right shoulder.]DG: However, just because you’ve got some renewed determination, doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed victory. I’ve not only claimed to be the only wrestler that matters but I’ve gone out to that ring every night since being there and proven it. I’ve risen to every challenge and faced everyone who’s stepped in front of me. Even in defeat, the focus was still on me rather than the victorious opposition. To defeat me it takes the same hard work and dedication that I put into each of my matches. It doesn’t take illusions or tricks, Crowe. I hope you realize that those same tricks you use to pick up chicks don’t impress a lot of people in a wrestling ring. So, Crowe, you can come to Southern Dynamite with all of your card tricks, you can fly through the air and even walk on water but anything short of rising through the dead doesn’t impress me and will only lead to your downfall that much quicker. Remember, that at Southern Dynamite, you won’t be facing someone whose main workout was pushing the plunger three times a day. You’ll be facing the greatest RCW Natural Champion of all-time. You’ll be facing the only wrestler that matters. You’ll be facing the Burning Hammer. You’ll be facing…
[Doug moves his left hand in front of his face and makes the metal sign with it.]DG: …Doug Gavelon!
[Doug holds the pose as the camera slowly cuts. The crew begins to wrap up so Doug walks back over to his locker to grab his things.]5 p.m.
[As Doug enters his apartment, he sees the place almost empty.]DG: Tiff?
Tiffany: In here.[Doug hears her response coming from the bedroom and proceeds in. He sees Tiffany lying on the bed in her red bra with tan pajama bottoms. She has several colored pencils on the bed with a large piece of poster board and is drawing something.]Tiffany: So how’d everything go?DG: Pretty good.
Tiffany: You ready for that magician?DG: Yeah, but I think he’s called “The Illusionist.”
Tiffany: Whatever. You’ve got this thing wrapped up.DG: You’re sounding like Josh. Everyone thinks this guy is a pushover.
Tiffany: I don’t think he’s a pushover, I just know how good you are. There’s no way you’re losing at Southern Dynamite.[Doug just stands there and smiles.]DG: So what are you drawing?
Tiffany: You.[Tiffany gets on her knees and holds up her drawing of Doug.][Doug grabs the drawing and admires it for a few moments.]DG: Wow! I didn’t know you were this good.
Tiffany: Yeah, well you can’t seem to lose these days. You’re the Natural Champion, you’re on a huge roll, you’ve got a very talented girlfriend, and you have friends and family who completely believe in you. What more could you ask for?[Doug gives her a devilish smile.]DG: I can think of a few things.
[Tiffany picks up the colored pencils and tosses them to the side. She gives him a sly smile and begins seductively crawling towards him at the end of the bed.][Doug leans in and passionately kisses her. He then quickly goes over to the wall and turns off the lights.]
